The primary timing retrieval circuit, for TDM systems, reduces phase fluctuations arising from the positive/negative stuffing technique employed in 2023656. This is achieved by making the correction frequency for second correction stages (one per primary system) so small that it is only just adequate for correcting the clocking deviations measured in the k earlier periods. A pulse train, obtain by division of the clock sequence fl/m, is selected as a correction frequency for comparison with the correction signal. Selection is dependent on the difference in the number of positive and negative stuffing instructions in a defined time period before selection takes place.
