The vehicle is driven by a closed circuit hydrostatic transmission with the torque controlled by a lever linked to the accelerator pedal. The linkage between the pedal to the transmission is variable with pedal travel so that the first section of the pedal travel gives a fine control over inching the vehicle, while the remainder of the travel gives a coarse control for road travel. The linkage is fitted with a damping control which limits the retardation of the vehicle, independent of loading. This enables the vehicle to be retarded gently even when the accelerator pedal is released suddenly. The system is used for fork lift trucks and similar vehicles.
