Welding appts. for plastics band used in packaging has clamps for holding the tensioned band at either side of the welding point. The welding equipment comprising a welding bar and an opposite, moveable holding element fitted on its side towards the band with a projecting rib extending across the entire band width; the remainder of the pressing area of this holding element is flat in the plane of the band. Specif. the projecting rib cooperates with an opposing cutting edge on the welding bar when the holding element is advanced.
