The polypropylene, esp. mainly isostatic, is added to the base material either from a multiple orifice extruder or in powder/granule form in a current of heated air with the base material at a temp. of 170 - 190 degrees C i.e. approx. the m.pt. of the plastic the base material also being molten at that temp. and the mixture is stirred and kneaded as required for homogeneous mixing to form a slow earing high grip road material. Esp. this is applied in multiple layers where the polypropylene content of the compound rises from the base layer upwards. More esp. only the top layer contains the plastics additive and the ratio of thicknesses of the anti-wear top layer, the intermediate binder layer and a foundation layer is esp. approx. 1 : 2 : 8.
