Anthraquinone dyes - for dyeing/printing cellulosics, polyesters, polyamides, polyurethanes, polyolefins in orange-red-viol

Title cpds. are of formula (I): (where X1 and X2 are each NH2 or OH; Y is alkylene; R is alkyl, alkoxy or alkylmercapto; n is 0, 1 or 2). They are prepd. by reacting appropriately substd. anthraquinones with appropriately substd. alcohols in the presence of strongly alkaline cpds., opt. in solvents at 100-160 degrees C, esp. 120-140 degrees C. In an example, m-(bis- beta-hydroxyethoxy-isopropyl -benzene and 1-amino-2-phenoxy-4-hydroxyanthraquinone are reacted in N-methylpyrrolidone as solvent in presence of KOH at 140-150 degrees C for 4 1/2 hrs. to give a red dyestuff.
