A tubular heat exchanger comprising an envelope with three horizontal tube plates arranged one above the other through which a multitude of tube bundles are passed vertically, whereby each tube bundle consists of an external tube with both ends open and a concentric inner tube. An upper open and lower closed end providing an annular opening for a first medium. The inner tube accommodates a further concentric tube with open ends providing a further annulus for a second medium. The envelope consist of an upper and lower jacket and held apart by the tube bundle arrangement. Both the first and second concentric tube carry distance pieces which are used as scrapers during tube removal operations. The relative small crossectional areas between the individual tubes improve the overall heat transfer efficiency.
