Flocculating agent prepd. by modifying polyacrylamide, having mol. wt. 1,000,000, with HCHO followed by reaction of prod. with aliphatic, aromatic and/or cyclic amines, esp., piperidine, morpholine or di-(1-4C)-alkylamines is useful for clearing fungus and bacterial fermentation liquors as obtd. in prodn. of enzymes, antibiotics and other microbiological processes. It is pref. used in 0.1-5 (0.1-0.5) wt.% concn. w.r.t. suspension to be cleared. Pref. wt. ratios polyacrylamide, HCHO and amine are chosen so that 5-40 (20-30)% of amide gps. of polyacrylamides are modified.
