Spiked tyre - with mounting band containing rectangular polyester spikes encapsulating dense carborundum grains

The plastic mounting band, holding the rectangular spikes by adhesion or welding, is applied to the circumference of the tyre carcass in a zig-zag or a straight line, to be attached during the vulcanising process. The spikes are of polyester or other suitable material with the same wear rate as the rubber of the tyre tread, and encapsulate a dense mass of carborundum grains to give the gripping effect. The spikes are arranged with their long face agains the direction of tyre rotation. The purpose is to provide an easily mounted spike array, where the spikes wear at the same rate as the tyre rubber, giving grip to ice and snow surfaces as well as normal roads.
