In the bridge on one side the diagonal voltage between standard resistances of a reference arm and on the other side that of the subject of measurement and of a normal of a measuring arm are tapped. Both arms are fed with alternating voltages of a different phase, so as to permit precision measurement of variations in measured variables, the phase difference comprising pref. 90 degrees. The measured value which is dependent on the variation in measured variables is then provided by the alteration in phase of the diagonal voltage, this alteration being determined by a phase comparison with a voltage tapped in the reference arm. The amplitude of this voltage is approx. of the magnitude of the alteration in magnitude of the voltage at the junction between the normal and the subject of measurement. Pref. the standard resistances used are ohmic resistances. The alteration in phase is pref. measured by conversion into time intervals and their determination.
