Internal electrolytic corrosion of pipes not having external cathodic protection e.g. earthed pipes which convey electrolytically conductive aq. solns and which are connected via insulating pipe couplings to a pipe section that is cathodically protected outside is prevented by placing an anode near the insulating connection inside the pipe and subjecting the anode to a potential that is more positive than the internal potential of the pipe section that is not externally protected.
