1396973 Rolling tubular workpieces POLITECHNIKA WARSZAWSKA 16 Nov 1972 [26 Nov 1971 23 May 1972] 52870/72 Heading B3M [Also in Division B5] A tubular workpiece 1 (Fig. 1a), is rolled on to a profiled core 4 by a pair of rolling jaws 2 and 3 each of which follows a circular, but eccentric path around the workpiece axis (Figs. 1c and 1e). The jaws may have smooth or toothed working surfaces in order to form similar surfaces on the outside of the workpiece. During each rotary cycle of the jaws, they come out of contact with the workpiece and allow it to be fed axially. The working may be performed cold or warm. The core may rotate during working but not move axially (Fig. 3, not shown), or may remain stationary except for periodic axial movements (Fig. 4). In the latter case the core produces a helical thread on the interior of the workpiece, and each rotation of the workpiece by the jaws feeds it along the core to a small extent. The spring 5 returns the core to its initial position when the jaws lose contact with the workpiece.
