Steelworks converter suspension - which prevents trunnion ring bending and allows free shell dilatation

The converter shell is supported by a trunnion ring and two trunnions aligned along a diameter of the ring. The shell rests on the ring by means of two conical surfaces situated in the trunnion zone on two coaxial cones with apices opposed and on a common axis which coincides with a diameter of the ring. The top is situated on the axis of the ring. Lateral stops on the ring and the shell maintain the diametral plane of the shell which is perpendicular to the axis of the cones and corresponds to the corresponding diametral plane of the ring. This system prevents bending of the ring when the shell is in a vertical or tilted position and permits free dilation of the shell.
