Milling roller for fibrous material esp for papermaking

Fibrous papermaking material is milled between a tapered grooved roller rotating inside an internally grooved tapered outer sleeve. The roller has sloping grooves halfway along it and grooves sloping the other way on the remainder of its face. The sleeve has similarly arranged grooves inside, to oppose the grooves on the roller, but there is a narrow band of grooves parallel to the sleeve axis, half way along which align with the junction point of the sloping grooves on the roller. The sleeve, which can move axially, aligns itself at this point while milling, avoiding a dead zone.
