1,249,061. Record cards and readers. REVENUE SYSTEMS Ltd. 28 April, 1970 [30 Jan., 1969], No. 5246/69. Headings G4M and G5R. A card has a magnetic strip 4 for recording variable information, e.g. current balance of a bank account, and a number of devices 2 having fixed electrical resonant frequencies, representing fixed data. Apart from the magnetic strip, which preferably has a steel backing strip 5 to allow saturation of the strip 4, the card is similar to that disclosed in Specification 1,233,260. The variable data may be recorded and reproduced by heads 23, 24 mounted on a carriage which is guided by ball-races 34-38 and 42 on a track 33 and longitudinal rod 43 and driven relative to the card 1 by a linear motor comprising permanent magnet 50, an energizable coil 51 and a feedback coil 57 and magnet 55. Alternatively, the card 1 may be driven relative to stationary heads, or relative movement may be simulated using a variable reluctance multiple head.
