Cobalt recovery - from an ammonium carbonate solution contg nickel and cobalt

The soln. is treated by addn. of sulphurating agent followed by addn. of a gas contg. O2. The quantity of NiSO4 which is pptd. with the CoSO4 is restricted so that the ppt. is enriched in Co and the mother-liquor in NiSO4. Alternatively, the ammoniacal wash may be thickened to increase the quantity of solids followed by treatment with a gas contg. O2. This results in selective dissolution of NiSO4 from the ppt. so that it returns to the mother liquor.
