The melts are purified by coagulation of the suspended oxide by mechanical stirring creating extensive turbulence and localised melt densification). The stirrer is vertical and has a pref. eccentric stirrer head with two holes. The stirrer coagulated oxide particles rise to the top of the melt and are held back on tapping, yielding inclusion free castings.
