Fluorination of perhalogenated org cpds - in molten salt salt mixture of potassium fluorideand cadmium chloride

Perhalogenated org. cpds. (I) are fluorated in molten/solid medium by passing vapour of (I) through a mixture of KF (43 mole %) and CdCl2 (57 mole %) at 400-800, pref. 420-480 degrees C in presence of pieces (0.2-1.5 cm) of graphite, SiC and/or fused alumina. (I) is a 1-12C aliphatic or 6-12C aromatic hydrocarbon (substd. by Cl fluorochloro, br, fluoro bromo, chlorobromo and/or fluorochlorobromo) or heterocyclic N, O or S cpd. similarly substd. (I) is diluted with inert gas (argon). The salt mixture has lower melting pt. and reduces the decomposition of (I).
