Protection of refractories - in an oxidising environment eg steel converter

Protection of refractory walls or linings in industrial furnaces or steel converters subject to thermal corrosion under oxidising conditions e.g. O2 or air blowing and/or the presence of Fe oxides, so as to extend their length of life, by the continuously or periodically repeated application of C particles as a dispersion or a layer arising from the introduction of a fluid or pasty material carrying the C. In particular, the fluid or pasty material may itself contain hydrocarbons producing C by cracking in the furnace and depositing this on the refractory walls which are to be protected.
