A multiplex spatial pattern generator based on digital data processing techniques is associated with a number of individual colour signal generators which can be connected via gate switches to the input terminals of a colour TV picture tube, the spatial and colour scanning being interlocked/interlaced as required to produce a range of decorative patterns. A combination of computer programmed and manually trimmed or preset controls are used to produce decorative material patterns rapidly and cheaply to satisfy individual designers artistic sense.
