In the embodiment shown, timber to be treated is secured in a treatment bath 1 when empty, the treatment bath 1 then being filled with preservative liquid pumped from a storage tank 2 by a pump 3. The length of time the preservative liquid remains in the treatment bath 1 is controlled by a timer 10, the timer operating a valve 4 at the end of the cycle to return the preservative liquid to the storage tank 2. Finally the timber is removed from the treatment bath 1.
