The inner tube is either oil- or gas-filled as may be any tubes surrounding it. Preferably, the pressure within each tube is greater than that in the surrounding tube; an example gives the gas pressure in the innermost tube as 16 atm., between that tube and the surrounding one 8 atm., and beyond the outer one, 1 atm. If the two tubes have spiral corrugations, they may be of opposite hand.
