The shaft passes through longitudinal blocks 200, 220 coupled at each end by shafts to brackets at each end of the lower jaws 178, 180. The clamp is capable of minute longitudinal movement to maintain a predetermined tension in the pipe by means of a load cell coupled to the clamp.
