The slurry enters at inlet 35 and passes via the flume section to the screen (not shown), supported on a screen deck 17 which comprises a horizontal section and an inclined section, both made up from spaced transverse and longitudinal bars. The screen vibratory drive unit 18 is connected to a transverse rotatable shaft 24, Fig. 4, end extensions 83 of which support counterweight arrangements 62. The counterweights, Fig. 8 are kidney shaped and are pivotally mounted on shaft end extension flange 86. During rotation of the shaft 24 the counterweights are forced open by centrifugal action so that an eliptical vibratory movement is imparted to the screen deck. The slurry may be of drilling mud and the separation is such that liquid and fines pass through the horizontal section of the screen deck whereas larger particles are thrown to the inclined section where they tend to agglomerate before falling off.
