1308717 Vinyl acetate SOC ITALIANA RESINE SpA 8 June 1971 [1 July 1970] 19527/71 Heading C2C In a process for the separation of vinyl acetate from a mixture with ethyl acetate, the mixture is supplied to a distillation column with thirty to fifty theoretical trays at a point intermediate between the top and bottom of the column, ethylene glycol and/or propylene glycol is supplied at a point intermediate between the mixture addition and the top of the column, with a weight ratio of vinyl acetate : ethylene glycol and/or propylene glycol of 0À03 : 1 to 2 : 1, and with a reflux ratio of from 2 to 7 to obtain vinyl acetate at the top of the column and ethyl acetate and ethylene glycol and/or propylene glycol at the base. Preferably if the column has more than thirty theoretical trays, the mix is introduced at a point above the fifth, if more than forty at a point above the tenth. The original mixture may be from the catalytic oxidation of ethylene and acetic with palladium salts as catalysts.
