1418826 Catalytic purification of I.C. engine exhaust gases TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 15 Feb 1973 [14 April 1972] 7419/73 Heading B1F A reactor 19 has inlet ducts 18 for receiving exhaust gases from an engine manifold 17, a wall 31, e.g. of stainless steel or ceramic, to guide the gases in a swirling path in a chamber 37 and a reaction chamber 33 communicating with the swirl chamber. There may be an oxidising atmosphere in chamber 33. The chamber 33 may be packed with an alumina supported catalyst. The wall 31 is spaced from the reactor casing 21 to define an insulating- space 32 and slidably located between the end plates 22, 23 by annular plate projections 29. The reaction chamber outer wall 34 is slidably located by the plate projections 28 eccentric to the wall 31. The wall 31 may be oval in shape.
