Suitable solvents are esters of C 2-15 carboxylic acids, alkyl ethers, C 4-10 alcohols, aliphatic, cycloaliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and halogenated hydrocarbons. Substrates specified are estradiol, estrone, estriol, equilin, equilenin, diethyl stilbestrol, testosterone (giving 4-androstene-3,17- dione), olive oil (giving fatty acids) and butanol (giving butyric aldehyde).
