Increasing permeability of sinter-plant beds - by piercing the fine ore etc. bed of charge material with bolt headed spikes

The bed pref. of iron ore, is pierced across its width, by bolt-headed spikes protruding through the underside of a frame sliding rapidly upwards and downwards within a fixed chassis positioned above the sinter-plant strand, ahead of the burner. The rapid motion of the frame relative to the speed of the strand gives piercing intervals of 30-60 mm for a strand speed of approx. 3000 mm/min. The high rate of movement is pref. effected by a cam arrangement.
