Automatic removal of intestines from chickens - as part of an automatic line for preparing 'oven ready' chickens

Chickens which have been plucked and are hanging by the legs are mechanically opened so that the offal hangs outside. It remains attached by membranes and normally fouls the outside of the bird making it necessary to wash it. Usually the offal is removed manually. A rod or plate placed along-side the line along which the chickens move holds the offal away from the carcase and prevents fouling of it. Even-tually the rod is replaced by two rods which diverge from the line of the carcases and remove the offal.
