Diaphragm for a cell for the electrolysis of an aqs. soln. of an alkali metal halide consists of a composite bonded sheet consisting of ampibolic asbestos fibres bonded to polyvinylidene fluoride fibres, which is bonded to at least one sheet of chrysotile asbestos.
