Cpds. of formula (I): (where R and R1 are 1-4C alkyl) have insecticidal, acaricidal and nematocidal activity. They are pref. prepd. by reacting R1(RO)P(S)Hal (where Hal is halogen, pref. Cl) with 3-hydroxybenzothiophene in the presence of an acid acceptor or in the form of its alkali (ne earth) metal or NH4 salt.
