An applicator for applying a liquid coating to a moving surface, comprising  a brush  portion having a plurality of brush filaments arranged in a generally rectangular pack and terminating in a generally straight edge, and a reservoir portion located above said brush portion and having a slot-like capillary feed passage of uniform thickness leading from the reservoir to communicate with the side of the pack of filaments across substantially the whole width thereof.
