An apparatus adapted to prevent the pollution of air from smoke or fumes discharged from a furnace by direct contact with water comprising a first chimney adapted to receive a gaseons discharge from a furnace, a second chimney adapted to receive the outlet of said first chimney, the outlet of said first chimney being inclinably disposed within said second chimney, a water spray provided with said second chimney and above the outlet of said first chimney whereby the water entering said second chimney travels in a counter flow direction to that of the discharged gases and an outlet for the water discharged from the said second chimney.
