Island construction for carrying out external tasks particularly for the drilling and development of wells for exploitation of petroleum or natural gas fields, of the known type having a base or foot resting on or anchored to the sea bed, and a tower type construction with a buoyancy capacity, resting on and oscillatable with respect to the base, incorporating the novel feature whereby the upper face of the base has a curved surface and a weighted part or part which can be weighted is provided with a complementary curved surface on the lower end of the tower type construction which rests on the base with its centre of buoyancy situated above its centre of gravity.
