Asbestos paper/cardboard - contg small amt of amosite asbestos in addition to chrysotile asbestos

Asbestos paper or cardboard for use as friction material e.g. for transmissions has a fibrous component contg. 0.8-25 (2-20) esp. 2-10 wt.% amosite asbestos, based on the total wt. of paper or cardboard. PRef. the paper/cardboard also contains (wt.%): 6-96, pref. 39-51 chrysotile asbestos, 35-60 org. fibres, and 5-20, pref. 5-10, inorg. filler, other than asbestos. The amosite asbestos facilitates prodn. of the paper/cardboard by increasing the water drainage rate from the suspension, and provides pdts. with increased permeability, and a good friction coefficient, and resistance to wear.
