PROCESS FOR OBTAINING A PREDETERMINED KAPPA NUMBER IN SULFATE PULPING

Method involves sampling the pulping process when initial reactions (comprising the dissolution of readily dissolved substances in the wood to be digested and impregnated) have reached a well determined stage and before delignification has substantially begun. The sampling moment is characterized by means of the Q-factor for the process. The concn. value obtd. from analysis of the sample of pulping liquor is used to determine the cooking intensity expressed as the H-factor needed to obtain a pulp with predetermined Kappa number, and on the basis of this H-factor the alkali concn. in the digester and the time-temp. relationship are controlled for the remaining part of the cook.
