1293934 Increasing latex yield BOARD OF THE RUBBER RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF MALAYA and AMCHEM PRODUCTS Inc 16 June 1970 [17 June 1969] 30603/69 Heading C1B [Also in Division C3] The yield of rubber latex from rubberbearing Hevea brasilienses is improved by subjecting the tree to a chemical treatment by applying to the tree a substance which causes ethylene or acetylene to be released in or in close proximity of the latex-bearing tissues of the tree. Suitable chemical substances used are ethylene, acetylene and substances which release ethylene by hydrolysis such as 2-chloroethyl phosphonic acid and the n-butyl ester of 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxy acetic acid. 2-Chloroethylphqsphonic acid may be applied in admixture with a fluid, oil or grease, such as palm oil, as a carrier. Alternatively the 2-chloroethyl phosphonic acid may be sprayed on the bark of the trees in solution in water optionally containing dibutyl phthalate or it may be injected into a hole drilled into the wood of the tree.
