[Also in Division F3] An explosive device for cutting openings in walls comprises a casing 11, Fig. 3, e.g. of cardboard, having a planar surface 13 for placing against the wall, an elongate, hollow explosive charge 23 for cutting the opening, and a backing material 26 for reducing the rearward force of the explosion. The hollow charge comprises PETN, RDX or TNT encased in a lead sheath 22 and is in the form of a circle, rectangle, U-shape or straight line (Fig. 25, not shown). The backing material 26 comprises plastics foam supported by a sheet 27 of rubber or nylon or chopped nylon dispersed in the foam. A detonator 31 for the hollow charge and a length of fusecord 32 are stored in a compartment 28 closed by flaps 17a, 7b. To cut an opening in a wall the device is attached to the wall by means of a handle or magnets carried by the casing (Figs. 1 and 6, not shown) and the hollow charge is detonated. Alternatively, where the hollow charge is in the form of a straight line, two parallel slots are first cut in the wall. Two further slots, substantially perpendicular to and overlapping the first slots, are then cut to complete the opening. Other embodiments of the explosive device are described (see Division F3).
