In coating the surface of a wiping cylinder for a mono- or polychrome Cu-plate engraving machine, using a cylinder with an initial coating of rubber followed by applying further coatings, with at least partial drying between applications, at lest the 1st coating is formed from a compsn. comprising 1000 pbw PVC, 220-260 pbw trioctyl phosphate (I) 110-130 pbw dioctyl sebacate (II), 12-18 pbw graphite, 12-18 pbw CaCO3 and 12-18 pbw stabiliser, while at least the final coating is formed from 1500 pbw PVC, 330-390 pbw (I) 160-200 pbw (II) 130-170 pbw polymeric plasticiser, 40-50 pbw CaCO3 and 12-18g. stabiliser.
