Beta 4-hydroxy 1-naphthyl ethyl halides and corresp. spiro cpds - for use as dye intermediates, made by reaction of alcohol with halogen acids
Beta 4-hydroxy 1-naphthyl ethyl halides and corresp. spiro cpds - for use as dye intermediates, made by reaction of alcohol with halogen acids
Cpds. fo formula (I) (in which the rings may contain further substits) are converted to the corresp. halides contg. a CH2CH2X gp. (in which X is Cl, Br or I) by reaction with esterifying agents, pref. halogen acids. The prods. may be further converted to spiro-dienones of formula (II) by reaction with alkali. When the substit. gp. is a chromogen, or either cpd. is coupled with a diazotised amine, they give dyes with fibre reactive props. suitable for dyeing and printing of silk, leather, wool, polyamides, polyurethanes and cellulose fibres, esp. when they also contain a water-solubilising gp. e.g. SO3H.
