Pharmacological active oxindoles, useful for prophyl-axis and therapy of coronary diseases, esp. treatment of angina pectoris, and also treatment of heart arrhythmia, have formula (I) (where X is H; R1 is H or lower alkyl and R2 is an alkyl, hydroxyalkyl alkalkoxyalkyl gp. the O atom of which is separated from the N atom by =2C atoms, or a cycloalkyl or a phenylalkyl gp., the Ph gp. of which is separated from N by =2C atoms and which can also be mono-substd. by an alkoxy or alkyl gp.) or their acid addn. salts. (I) are prepd. by debenzylating precursors (II) having formula (I: X = benzyl), e.g. by catalystic hydrogenation, esp. in the presence of a Pd catalyst, in an inert solvent, at N.T.P.
