摘要
A preshaped body for coking has three components: 35 to 75% by weight of coking coal; 65 to 25% by weight of finely divided substantially non-coking solids; and 3 to 40% by weight of total solids of a hydrocarbon liquid which is capable of continuous gasification during coking. Weakly coking coals (O2 content 7 to 10%) may be employed, of particle size up to 0.5 cm., and the non-coking solids may be coke, anthracite, char, petroleum coke, or noncarbonaceous material, e.g. lime or rock dust (particle sizes are given). The liquid should be one of which at least the major portion is gasified over the range 260-600 DEG C., i.e. during formation of the coke structure in the coal. Preferred materials are petroleum derivatives having flash points above 70 DEG C. and distillation ranges such that 50% at least is gasified between 370 DEG and 600 DEG C., e.g. residual fuel oils, Bunker C oil, asphalt and blends thereof, and tar oils. After admixing, the body is shaped by a conventional briquetting or pelletizing process, and the bodies are coked on a travelling grate, see Fig. 1 (not shown), which has an underlayer of coal or lignite which is burnt to provide the heat.
