Growth of weeds is prevented by spreading over the earth surface plastics sheets which are weather-resistant, permeable to air and water, but impermeable to light. Pref. the sheets are fastened against inadvertent lifting by tent-pegs. The sheet is from a thermoplastics moulding mass which is pigmented and mixed with sand, gravel or other material of suitable particle size, to weight it against the wind.
