Appts. for the pyrolysis of a thermally decomposable liquid comprises a hollow reaction chamber with top feed device and a heater extending along the wall of the chamber; the chamber is connected to vacuum pump; the pyrolysis products leave through a bottom outlet. Appts. is used esp. for the pyrolysis of an Al trialkyl/tertraalkyl ammonium halide complex, esp. an Al triethyl/tetraethyl ammonium chloride complex (mol. ratio 2/1).
