In a drive for washing and centrifuging (spin-drying)operations, having a drive motor which in the washing operation can be switched off by a centrifugal switch before it attains its rated speed, and which reaches its rated speed only when the centrifugal switch is out of action, the low pole motor winding of the 12/2 pole switching motor can be switched into circuit when the washing drum, driven by the high pole winding, reaches the rated speed (i.e. the correct speed for the articles to be washed). Provides a wider spread of speed between the washing and spin drying speeds and ensures better utilisation of the motor power.
