Convective and gas-radiation heat transfer tube furnaces for the cracking by heating and/or under pressure of substances with a tendency to undergo thermal cracking e.g. dichloroethane, in which the furnace comprises (a) two structurally separated chambers, namely the combustion chamber and the tube furnace chamber, interconnected by a flue gas conducting and distributing channel. (b) horizontal or vertical cracking tubes and flue gas conducting channels or suitably constructed equipment in the cracking zone of the tube furnace chamber, (c) suitable ducts connected to the combustion chamber which is provided with one or more rows of burners, and/or to the flue gas-conducting channels for the introduction of cold flue gases and/or steam and/or air.
