Pipe-hole prevention - in soft soldering of nailhead wires to small electrical components, eg oscillator crystals

Pipe-holes and internal corrosion in soft-soldered connections, particularly nailhead wire soldered to the contact surfaces of small electrical components. e.g. oscillator crystals, ceramic substrates, etc. are prevented by forming a groove, through which the gaseous soldering flux residues can escape, in the soldered surface of the nailhead wire and/or in the contact surface of the electrical component.
