The thermometers of polystyrene or polypropylene etc. consist of a capillary element of uniform dia. bore with a stepped extension at the end, and a bulk part. The bulk contains a reservoir chamber in which the stepped extension terminates. Indicator fluid is filled into the reservoir, and the capillary element is sealed at the top. A chosen scale is fitted to give a exact alignment with the surface of the liq. column in the capillary.
