Laboratory thermostat with unsealed stirrer shaft - has cooled shaft open-ing to minimise escape of vapours

An open-construction thermostat (ie. without a shaft seal for the agitator shaft) comprises a vessel, heater, temp. regularot and agitator. A cooler is fitted around the opening for the shaft, to condensate any vapours tending to rise through the annular gap around the shaft thus preventing their escape. PRef. porous material, e.g. metal fabric, is fitted into this gap to increase the cooling surface. The thermostat is suitable for liqs. at temps 350 degrees C.
