Pig iron desulphurization system - using carbon monoxide stream to inject finely distributed lime

Liquid pig iron is chemically desulphurized by introducing calcium compounds in it by a pressurized gas stream. A metered amount of liquid hydrocarbon is added to the stream only just before it enters the pool of molten metal. A reducing atmosphere is maintained, if compressed air is replaced by CO or gases contg. CO, e.g. blast-furnace gas or converter waste gases.
