Washing of hospital laundry - using germicidal compsn contg mixt of alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chlorides and washing soda

Powdered, germicidal disinfectant and steeping agent for hospital laundry consists of 10-20 wt.% mixt. of alkyl-dimethyl-benzyl ammonium chlorides having the general formula:- Me-(CH2)n-circled positive NME2-CH2-Ph Cl circled negative (I) and 90-80 wt.% washing soda. (i) Compsn. retains its activity on storage; (ii) washing soda dissolves protein and blood and, through its wetting activity, raises penetration of (I) through thickest, encrusted fabric; (iii) all bacilli and germs are killed without heating; (iv) standard washing machine cycles are adequate, (v) laundry effluents are discharged free of germs.
